Green tea has been used commonly as a drink or added to any beverage as a base. It is also a useful addition to a healthful diet and exercise regime for weight loss and overall health. Besides, it is often incorporated into the recipes in making cakes and desserts. Our green tea powder is made of microgrind green tea leaves of high quality which makes it easy to use as a food ingredient.

Green tea is one of the most popular beverages consumed worldwide. Green tea is mainly produced from Camellia sinensis. It is estimated that about 2.5 million tons of tea leaves are produced each year throughout the world, with 20% produced as green tea, which is mainly consumed in Asia, some parts of North Africa, the United States, and Europe. To produce green tea, freshly harvested leaves are immediately steamed to prevent fermentation, yielding a dry, stable product. This steaming process destroys the enzyme polyphenol oxidase responsible for converting the flavanols in the leaves into dark colour polyphenolic compounds that colour black tea. The next important step is the rolling and drying processes.

Green tea consumption has been associated with human health. Green tea is about 30% polyphenols by weight, of which approximately 80% is EGCG. A cup of green tea (2.5 g of green tea leaves/200 mL of water) may contain 90 mg of EGCG. It has been detected that green tea contains higher levels of EGCG and total catechins compared to oolong tea, black tea and Pu-Erh tea. The beneficial effects of green tea are attributed to its most abundant catechin, (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). The health-promoting effects include prevention of cancer and cardiovascular diseases, anti-inflammation, antioxidative and cholesterol-lowering effects. EGCG is an antioxidant that can speed up metabolism and break down fats. The presence of caffeine and L-theanine in green tea can have a synergistic effect in improving brain function-Matcha powder.


Direction of Use

Add 1/8 teaspoon to 6 tablespoons or 0.2% to 6% of total weight or as needed. Mix, top or blend in water, smoothies, beverages, ice-cream, kuih-muih, cake, jam, jelly, pudding, snacks, biscuits, desserts, dressing & recipes. (Depends on personal preferences)
