Evening Primrose Oil Powder (Oenothera biennis) — GLA Ingredient Bulk B2B Supplier
Evening primrose oil powder is a spray-dried fatty-acid ingredient made from the seed oil of Oenothera biennis L., with linoleic acid not less than 35% and γ-linolenic acid (GLA) not less than 5%. It is supplied as a water-soluble, light-yellow powder, emulsified on arabic gum rather than milk-derived sodium caseinate, which keeps it vegan, dairy-free and free of Annex II allergens. Produced in bulk for B2B and OEM formulators by Bionutricia Extract (Bionutricia Manufacturing Sdn Bhd) in Malaysia, with a Certificate of Analysis on every lot.

What is evening primrose oil powder?
Evening primrose (Oenothera biennis L.) is a flowering plant whose small seeds carry an oil with an unusual fatty-acid profile. Most plant oils are dominated by linoleic acid alone; evening primrose seed oil carries linoleic acid plus a meaningful proportion of γ-linolenic acid (GLA) — an omega-6 fatty acid that is uncommon in the plant kingdom and is the reason the oil is specified and traded on its GLA figure rather than on a plant-part or ratio basis.
The difficulty for a formulator is that it arrives as a liquid oil. Liquid oils are awkward to weigh accurately at low inclusion rates, restrict the finished formats available, and complicate storage and shipping. Bionutricia's evening primrose oil powder solves that: the oil is emulsified and spray-dried into a light-yellow powder that is more than 95% through 20 mesh, disperses in water, keeps for 24 months sealed, and can be handled like any other dry raw material. The spray-drying step is covered by Bionutricia's granted process patent MY-188945-A, "Process for Preparing Nutritional Powder Extract".
Arabic gum, not sodium caseinate — and why that decides your label
The default carrier the industry uses to turn an oil into a powder is sodium caseinate, which is milk-derived. Take that route and three things follow automatically for whoever sells the finished product: it becomes a declarable Annex II allergen, it kills any vegan or dairy-free claim, and it adds an animal-derived material to halal review.
Bionutricia emulsifies its whole oil-powder range on arabic gum. No sodium caseinate, no synthetic emulsifiers. That single decision is what allows this powder to be offered as vegan, dairy-free and allergen-free — and it is worth checking against any competing oil powder, because the carrier is rarely on the front of the spec sheet.
Where is it used in formulation?
Evening primrose oil powder is dosed at 2–8% as a bulk raw ingredient. Because it is dry and water-dispersible it can be used in beverages, energy drinks, powdered blends and culinary applications, as well as in conventional supplement systems — formats that a liquid oil either cannot enter or can only enter after separate encapsulation. Constant stirring is needed when it is dispersed into water to keep the dispersion even.
Bionutricia supplies the bulk ingredient for B2B formulation; brand owners and manufacturers formulate it into their chosen finished format — capsules, tablets, softgels, sachets, functional beverages, bakery or confectionery — according to their own product design and target market.

Why source evening primrose oil powder from Bionutricia?
Bionutricia Extract has manufactured standardised botanical and nutritional powders in Malaysia since 2006, under FSSC 22000, GMP, HACCP, MeSTI and US FDA registration, issuing a Certificate of Analysis on every production lot. The oil-powder range is emulsified exclusively on arabic gum, which is what lets the vegan, dairy-free and allergen-free position hold all the way down to the carrier, and spray-drying is performed under the granted process patent MY-188945-A. Bulk OEM, custom standardisation and contract spray-drying and packing are available to brand owners and manufacturers. Formulators working across the oil-powder range may also want our DHA algal oil powder, which is built on the same arabic-gum emulsification.
Frequently asked questions
