One of the few fruits native to North America, cranberries (Vaccinium macrocarpon) have been used by Native Americans as a staple for centuries. It belongs to the Heath or Heather family (Ericaceae), the berries grow naturally in swamps and bogs. They are eaten fresh, ground, or mashed with cornmeal and baked into bread. Cranberries contain a natural preservative called benzoic acid which extends the shelf life. Early Europeans settlers learned cranberries’ many uses from the Native Americans as early as 1620.
Cranberry standardized powder is derived from the fruit of the cranberry plant and it is rich in proanthocyanidins (PACs) and other antioxidants. Cranberry extract has been studied extensively for its potential health benefits, particularly in the prevention and treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs). It is believed that the active compounds in cranberry extract may help to prevent bacteria from adhering to the walls of the urinary tract, thereby reducing the infection risk. Direction of Use
Add 1-5 tablespoons or 2-6% of total weight or as needed. Mix, top or blend in water, smoothies, beverages, ice-cream, kuih-muih, cake, jam, jelly, pudding, snacks, biscuits, desserts, dressings & recipes.
