STANDARDIZED Black Tea Extract

Camellia Sinensis

Black tea is made from leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. It is known as black tea in the West and known as red tea in the East. The presence of caffeine makes black tea a good substitute for those who drink coffee, soft drink and any energy drink to keep them alert.

Black tea is the most widely consumed beverage worldwide (78%) followed by green tea (20%) and oolong tea (2%). Green tea contains many polyphenols known as catechins. After fermentation in a slightly elevated temperature, cut and partially dried green tea leaves turned into black tea that has the characteristic color and flavor.

In vivo study on effect of black tea on cholesterol

Subject 7 men and 8 women
Duration of the study 3 weeks
Dosage Five servings/day
Groups (1) Placebo (2) Tea and other beverages
Parameters analysed Survival rate, tumor growth, histopathologic and mechanism study
Function Inclusion of tea in a diet moderately low in fat reduces total and LDL cholesterol by significant amounts and may, therefore, reduce the risk of coronary heart disease Visible benefits Tea inclusion reduced total cholesterol 6.5%, LDL cholesterol 11.1%, apolipoprotein B 5% and lipoprotein(a) 16.4%.

Weight Control

In vivo study on effect of black tea extract on body weight

SubjectRats (n=18)
Duration of the study8 weeks
Dosage500, 1000mg/kg
Groups(1) Control
 (2) High-fat diet + black tea
Parameters analysedPlasma lipid level
Function

• This can be due to the action of theaflavin and thearubigins.
Visible benefits
• Polyphenols from black tea inhibited pancreatic lipase activity.
• t suppressed increases in body weight parametrial adipose tissue mass, and liver lipid content in individuals fed a high-fat diet.

Blood Pressure Control

In vivo study on effect of black tea extract on blood pressure

Subject Men & women (35-75 year old)
Duration of the study 6 months
